Leadership here in Michigan is in constant change as we focus on the 4th quarter and the upcoming New Year. And we are like many organizations across the country; every day we adjust to improve. Across our great state, we await an economic forecast that includes Obama Care and uncertain fuel and gas prices. Michigan has an edge in opportunity because of the increase in automotive sales; a welcome sign of growth and opportunity. We are in hiring mode.
In The Leader in You: How to Win Friends, Influence People, and Succeed in a Changing World; Dale Carnegie’s words are very important. “Keep your mind open to change all the time. Welcome it. Court it. It is only by examining and reexamining your opinions and ideas that you can progress.”
Cost effective marketing, especially within Social Media helps support our collective direction. Facebook, Google +, and Twitter are now important tools for marketing and advertising. This blog post is really one that focuses on the Dale Carnegie principles we communicate across the Metro Detroit area through platforms like social media. The swiftness of everyday information and the voluminous amounts of data that have to be harnessed for the good of both the organization and business is an important aspect of growth and goal achievement.
Social media is a critical cultural change for all of us as leaders and managers. Our relationships are different than they were in 2000.
But today’s leadership still needs the traditional ingredients:
- Vision
- Values
- Direction
- Communication
- Motivation
Everyone in business today must be contributing talent and creativity. No longer are people just coming in and putting in their time; the cubicle and the shop floor have incredible ideas to share! One thing leadership needs to make a tradition in these times of instant everything is asking for advice from employees and giving it back. Employee engagement through subordinates, clients and suppliers will make everything a little better. Mr. Carnegie never was more correct. His principles are history.
