Clearly medical theory has proven that an age-old practice can actually help cope with stress, particularly on the corporate level. What’s that practice called? Meditation!
Believe it or not, the proof is there. Meditation has shown to not only provide a sort of peace of mind for the individual but an actual boost to the immune system and lower cardiovascular risk. In addition, you can see that meditation actually manages high blood pressure pretty well. If you’re a professional working a first shift, sleep is important; meditation helps with sleep disorders to alleviate any issues on that front. Moreover, if you’re in a business that requires a lot of change and a lot of physical pressure, meditation can help cope with all of that on a regular basis.
In the workplace, you can imagine that it’s an incredible benefit. This is especially a true factor in education and instruction for the beginning of a career in the corporate world when you enter the halls of the University of Michigan, taking serious consideration to that method of meditation as a means to deliver results in a company or organization while minimizing the stress levels. They offer a class that helps manage stress — split into two parts, starting with the Beginning Meditation, laying the foundation for mind stabilization, and the Deepening Meditation with the means to expanding that foundation to involve our actions from moment to moment, leading to better insight of how our actions dictate how we approach our lives and our environment.
As a means to provide some sort of convenience in the course for the University of Michigan, both sections can be taken dependently of one another; although their purpose is to be enrolled together for optimal education of the theory and practice of meditation. Altogether, the two courses provide expert strategies, teacher guidance, and participant support for a total of eight weeks. Instructor Martha Kimball, ACSW, BCD, MBCT herself trained with none other than the University of Massachusetts meditation mogul Jon Kabat-Zinn and can provide the same quality training to all participants in the course for the University of Michigan.
And that really is the beauty behind such a school — putting a food forward in the journey to provide something most colleges don’t bother teaching. Stress management. Typically, you’d see some sort of program done on the corporate level; but you know you have an educational system that cares plenty for the workforce when there’s a program given to career hopefuls before they even graduate or find their first job or profession.
This is a course with no specific requirement or need within the University. Anyone can register for it. And that’s the beauty of this method of stress relief — anyone can do it.
