I’ve already told you a little bit about what my expectations were before taking the Dale Carnegie Course, but in addition to being impressed with the energy level that my instructor maintains throughout each class, over and over again I’m amazed by the transformation and progress I’ve seen in my fellow students.
I fully anticipated being able to see a difference in at least some of my classmates by the end of the 12-week course, hosted by Dale Carnegie Training of Michigan. But I did not anticipate being able to tell a difference week to week.
I see people who were visibly nervous — dare I say terrified — to be speaking in front a group of people on Day 1, now actually showing a sense of enthusiasm to be taking the stage. I can tell they’ve practiced before class and that their confidence is growing.
I’ve heard people share some of their most personal stories with us, knowing that it couldn’t have been easy. But not only do they share their stories, they also show us how they’ve overcome, and what they learned in the process. Their courage is inspiring.
I see people who throw caution to the wind, and really truly embrace each activity with a vigor and enthusiasm that makes me strive to do the same. In a general sense, they might not be extroverts, but for the sake of the class and for the sake of improving themselves, they jump out of their comfort zone and face the challenge head on.
I only expect the awe I have for my fellow classmates to continue to build up until the very end. And, at the risk of sounding too cheesy, I do appreciate everything they’ve brought to the table thus far, because it’s certainly improved my experience and help me to continue to grow as well.
